Celebrating Friendship, Milestones, and Meaningful Details

PASSION PROJECTS | Episode #4

Some projects don’t start with a brief or a deadline. They start with a person. This one began with my best friend—years of friendship, countless milestones, and a shared history layered in the best way. When she turned 50 (a number she would prefer not to discuss), we decided a Gatsby-themed party was the perfect way to celebrate.

And so the planning began. I’ve always loved party planning. The details, the mood, the way a space can be transformed for one night and hold so much joy. I also have a habit of saving things—pieces from past parties, votive holders, bottles, decor—because I believe good ideas deserve a second life. Reinventing old elements into something new feels just as satisfying as starting from scratch.

For this celebration, every project came from that place of intention and history.  I designed custom koozies as keepsakes—something fun and functional that guests could take home, a small reminder of a big night.  The backdrop and table linens were sewn together and draped to create a layered, dramatic focal point, finished with cascading gold confetti streamers that caught the light and brought the Gatsby glamour to life.  The centerpieces might be my favorite part. Spray-painted bottles in glitzy metallic tones, filled with gold accent picks. The smaller bottles were saved from my baby shower centerpieces—tucked away years ago, waiting for their next moment. The taller glass bottles were ones I’d collected over time, holding onto them with no plan other than someday, these will be perfect for something. And this event was that something.

That’s what I love about passion projects. They aren’t about perfection or trends. They’re about connection—between people, between past and present, between creativity and memory. They remind me why I create in the first place: to celebrate, to honor, and to tell stories in the details.

Some projects feed your portfolio.

Others feed your soul.

And this one did exactly that.

Happy Birthday Friend!

Happy Birthday to one of my favorite humans. I’m so grateful for all the years, memories, laughter, and milestones we’ve shared—and for another excuse to celebrate! Here’s to a friendship that evolves with time, stories that only improve with age, and many more moments worth celebrating. 💛
