The Hutch Revival
The Hutch Revival
PASSION PROJECTS | Episode #1
There’s something truly magical about giving old things new purpose. Whether it’s the thrill of a thrift store find or the quiet joy of restoring a family heirloom, repurposing isn’t just about sustainability — it’s about storytelling. It’s about honoring the past while making space for the present, and infusing our surroundings with pieces that mean something.
Lately, I’ve been leaning into the art of seeing things differently — not just in design, but in the objects we often overlook. Thrift stores have become my treasure troves, where I search for pieces not for what they are, but for what they could become.
One of my favorite recent projects was transforming my grandparents’ old hutch into something entirely new — a stylish, functional accent piece for my office. For years, it sat in storage, collecting dust and holding memories. I wanted to honor its story while bringing it into a space that reflects my daily life and creativity.
The process was simple but full of love. A good clean, a soft coat of paint, repurposed hardware found at a thrift shop, and—my favorite touch—a hand painted geometric pattern to add visual interest. The perfect blend of nostalgia and modern flair.
Now, that hutch is more than furniture. It’s a centerpiece. It holds art supplies, creative odds and ends, and found pieces that hold a special place in my heart. It reminds me that great design isn’t always bought brand new—it’s often found, loved again, and reimagined.
So here’s to looking twice at the forgotten. To peeling back the layers of “old” and discovering new light. And to creating a home that tells your story—one beautiful, imperfect piece at a time.
Until next time…
