The Bathroom Boost

The Bathroom Boost

CREATING SPACES | Episode #2

Every home has that one room—the one that gets put off until the very end of renovations. For us, it was the kids’ bathroom. By the time I got around to it, the bath toys were more like lonely shelf accents than everyday essentials. With my kids getting older, I knew it was time to say goodbye to the rubber ducks and bright plastic colors, and hello to something more universal, timeless, and them.

I chose a palette of black, white, and gray for a clean foundation, then layered in touches of boho inspiration to keep it fun and full of personality. Here’s a peek into my process:

Step 1: Inspire ✨

Pinterest is always my first stop. I spent hours pinning everything from bold accent walls to minimal vanities, piecing together a vision that felt modern but still kid-friendly.

Step 2: Design 📝

From there, I sketched and built a digital blueprint with all of the dimensions laid out. It gave me a chance to visualize the space before committing to products—and saved me from making some costly mistakes.

Step 3: Search 🔎

Next came the “boots on the ground” phase: visiting paint stores, grabbing flooring samples, and snapping way too many photos of fixtures and price tags for comparison. (My camera roll was basically a bathroom mood board at this point!)

Step 4: Shop 🛒

Amazon and I became best friends. I spent countless hours comparing vanities, mirrors, and hardware—major kudos to Amazon’s list creation feature for helping me stay semi-organized.

Step 5: Create 🎨

Finally, the fun part: bringing it all together. I rolled up my sleeves and got messy—

  • Hand-painted wall art.

  • Cut my own stencil and painted a boho-inspired accent wall.

  • Laid the flooring.

  • Added personal touches I knew would make my kids smile.

Meanwhile, my husband handled the heavy lifting: swapping out the vanity, toilet, and light fixture. Teamwork!

And because I can’t resist a dramatic reveal, I pulled an all-nighter adding final touches so my little minions could wake up to their “new” bathroom on the first day of school. The surprise reaction? Absolutely worth the lost sleep.

This bathroom wasn’t just about tile and paint—it was about creating a space that could grow with my kids, while still feeling playful and full of life. For me, that’s the magic of design: turning an everyday room into a place where memories are made.
